BRASILIA: Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva\u2019s campaign requested the disqualification of right-wing rival Flavio Bolsonaro from the presidential race on Wednesday, a day after his opponent did the same.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lula received 45 percent of the vote compared to Bolsonaro\u2019s 47 percent in the first round earlier this month, and polls show a technical tie ahead of Sunday\u2019s runoff.<\/p>\n

Lula\u2019s campaign is seeking to disqualify Bolsonaro over alleged election interference by tech giant Meta aimed at harming the incumbent\u2019s chances of winning.<\/p>\n

In a petition filed to Brazil\u2019s top electoral court on Wednesday, Lula\u2019s team requested Bolsonaro\u2019s disqualification, citing his \u201cabuse of economic power and improper use of social networks.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meta, which owns Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram, denies the allegations but previously said that some of Lula\u2019s campaign ads had been mistakenly deactivated due to technical errors.<\/p>\n

Bolsonaro\u2019s team requested Lula\u2019s disqualification on Tuesday, accusing the leftist of \u201cabuse of power\u201d in the mass dissemination of government postings on WhatsApp during the campaign, according to the court filing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
