WNBA superstar Angel Reese is suddenly the focus of the basketball universe thanks to a Walt “Clyde” Frazier comment during Knicks/Magic Knicks vs. Magic.

“We’re not talking about basketball now,” Knicks legendary Hall of Famer Walt “Clyde” Frazier said during the broadcast.

“We’re talking about somebody’s life. Please explain, Clyde,” responded Breen. Knicks play-by-play man Mike Breen began analyzing the foul and court drama with his co-commentator, but Frazier took a whole different route as he zeroed in on the socialite Reese and her presence:

But instead of breaking down the physical altercation, the coach opted to joke about Carter’s off-court relationship with a Chicago Sky star.

“I like his taste though, Mike. He’s dating Angel Reese. Not too bad,” Frazier smoothly said live on air. The random shout out of Reese sent social media into a trolling tizzy, as the clip instantly went viral as avid sports fans and pop culture followers retweeted the clip.

The moment also underscored how Reese is an increasingly influential crossover star, whose significant pop culture pull maintains her massive presence even during NBA broadcasts.

Reese has long been one of the most prominent and influential personalities in modern day women’s sports, and her name constantly seems to be intertwined in conversations between the worlds of the sport and the mainstream media.

Neither Angel Reese nor Carter responded to questions on the viral broadcast moment, but the clip drew a divided audience on social media, with some fans applauding Frazier’s old school, natural personality while other fans questioned why Reese needed to be brought into the game during a heated physical battle between two players.

But no matter the opinion, the incident stands as yet another confirmation of just how much star power Reese has, that her cultural presence continues to be a leading storyline in the basketball space.
