CAIRO: The Saudi-led coalition \u200bfighting in Yemen said early on Saturday that it \u200cintercepted and destroyed a drone over Saudi Arabia\u2019s oil-rich Eastern Region as attacks by Yemen\u2019s Iran-aligned Houthis group continue.<\/strong><\/p>\n Cross-border fighting involving \u200bthe Saudi-led coalition, which backs Yemen\u2019s internationally recognised government, \u200band the Houthis, who control the capital Sanaa, \u2060has intensified amid the US-Israeli war on Iran, opening another front \u200bin the conflict.<\/p>\n The Eastern Region, which is the economic powerhouse \u200bof Saudi Arabia, has been subject to multiple attacks by Houthis in the past few weeks. It contains the majority of the kingdom\u2019s oil \u200band gas reserves and is home to oil giant \u200bSaudi Aramco\u2019s (2222.SE), opens new tab headquarters, which suffered extensive damage in an attack earlier \u200cin \u2060October.<\/p>\n The coalition also said it later intercepted and destroyed a drone that was launched by Houthis toward the Southern Region.<\/p>\n The Saudi coalition had also said on Friday that it \u200bhad intercepted and \u200bdestroyed a \u2060drone launched by Yemen\u2019s Houthis over Saudi Arabia\u2019s Medina region, but the Iran-aligned group denied \u200bany Friday attack.<\/p>\n Medina is home to one \u200bof Islam\u2019s \u2060holiest sites and is visited by millions of Muslim pilgrims each year.<\/p>\n The Houthis have repeatedly denied targeting Mecca and \u2060Medina, Islam\u2019s \u200btwo holiest cities, rejecting Saudi \u200baccusations that it had launched drones towards the cities.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
