Crypto exchange Binance said on \u200bSaturday it has been able to replace 90% of the amount stolen \u200cafter a record $6.3 billion hack of its platform, by using company money to buy new tokens.<\/strong><\/p>\n The remaining 10% consists of tokens that are less liquid, which means they may take longer to buy, \u200bit said in a statement posted on X.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ve now replenished 90% of the \u200bstolen assets, and we\u2019re committed to covering the remaining 10%. Our users \u2060will not bear the financial impact of this incident,\u201d co-CEO Richard Teng said on \u200bX on Saturday.<\/p>\n Crypto prices fell on Friday, while Binance \u2014 the world\u2019s biggest crypto exchange \u2014 sought \u200bto reassure customers that their funds were safe after losing more than $6 billion worth of crypto in a hack which analysts blamed on North Korea.<\/p>\n Teng said,\u00a0 on Friday that the breach was a \u201ccomplex attack\u201d involving a \u200bcompromised laptop and malicious software designed to delete evidence of its activity, making it \u200bharder to trace and investigate.<\/p>\n After the hack, the exchange stopped allowing customers to withdraw their funds, but \u200cit \u2060said on Saturday it was still on track to re-open withdrawals on Sunday.<\/p>\n Binance said it has set aside around $6.34 billion of company funds internally to cover the losses.<\/p>\n The money spent re-buying tokens came from using part of its $1 billion Secure Asset Fund for Users (SAFU), \u200ba bitcoin reserve it \u200bholds to protect \u2060customers in the event of security breaches, as well as some of its Futures insurance fund, and the company\u2019s own corporate treasury, \u200bit said on X.<\/p>\n Binance also said it had taken a new \u200bsnapshot of \u2060assets held on its platform as of 0000 GMT on October 31, as part of its proof-of-reserves process.<\/p>\n Users holding the 10 listed tokens \u2014 BTC, ETH, USDT, BNB, SOL, USDC, XRP, \u2060USD1, RLUSD, \u200band ZEC \u2014 would be able to verify that their \u200bassets were backed at a minimum 1:1 ratio once the full proof was available, it said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
