The new minimum age is a key part of the revised executive regulations, which also include permit and registration systems, designed to improve traffic safety, control the rapid growth of micro-mobility and ensure the safety of riders, pedestrians and motorists. 1 January 2027 will see the new executive regulations come into force.<\/strong><\/p>\n If you\u2019re riding an electric scooter, e-bike or moped, the minimum age to apply for the riding permit is 15 years old.<\/p>\n Permits under the new framework will be valid for three years & will be renewable after that indefinitely. The permits will be valid across all multiple classes of Personal Transport.<\/p>\n No personal mobility device shall be used on any Public Road intended for use of conventional motor vehicles. Personal mobility device shall only be used on approved and defined routes.<\/p>\n All equipment must meet mandatory safety standards such as forward-facing lights with high and low beams, rear-facing red brake lights, braking capability on at least one wheel, and stable, safe tires.<\/p>\n Categorization and Compliance in Detail<\/strong><\/p>\n The revised regulation breaks down individual mobility devices by six categories: traditional bicycles; electric bicycles; electric scooters; mini-motored bikes of less than 50cc engine capacity with a maximum speed of 45km\/h; skateboards; and mobility devices for the elderly and disabled.<\/p>\n Commercial rental operators are also required to meet the same steep standards.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, authorities have reaffirmed the rules for pedestrians in intersections: flashing green will not allow riders or walkers to begin crossing, but those already in the middle can continue to cross safely.<\/p>\n This pioneering regulatory amendment highlights the UAE\u2019s efforts to develop safer and more structured urban spaces in the face of micro-mobility\u2019s effect on urban mobility.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
