ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has formally registered BIGO LIVE and Likee in Pakistan, marking a step towards strengthening regulatory oversight and cooperation with digital platforms.<\/strong><\/p>\n According to the PTA, the registration of both platforms has been completed under BIGO Services Pakistan (Private) Limited, in accordance with the Removal and Blocking of Unlawful Online Content Rules, 2021.<\/p>\n The authority said it is committed to further strengthening its online content monitoring mechanism in collaboration with BIGO LIVE.<\/p>\n The PTA added that the registration would help promote the responsible use of social media platforms and ensure compliance with Pakistani laws and regulations.<\/p>\n It further stated that the formal registration of BIGO LIVE and Likee would strengthen cooperation between the regulator and digital platforms.<\/p>\n The authority also urged the importance of maintaining effective communication and expanding cooperation with digital platforms to ensure a more responsible digital environment in Pakistan.<\/p>\n BIGO Service Pakistan was among the first companies to register with PTA under the same rules. In January 2022, it received registration certificates for BIGO LIVE and Likee, alongside Snack Video.<\/p>\n For users, registration means the two apps now have a formal channel with the regulator for handling complaints and removing content that breaks local laws. Other big platforms are already under similar pressure, with TikTok removing over 23 million videos from Pakistan for breaking its rules.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
