Pakistan’s legendary cricketer Wasim Akram has criticized Indian news outlets for using his picture in reports about an alleged spy arrested in India who shares his name.
In a social media post, Akram said, “Here’s a free piece of advice for everyone — if you see anyone on social media with the name Wasim Akram, please double-check before believing it’s me.”
He explained that a man named Wasim Akram was reportedly arrested in India on espionage charges, but several Indian news channels mistakenly used the former cricketer’s image alongside the story.
Responding humorously in Punjabi, Akram said:
“Koun log ho tusi? Kithon aaye ho? No check, no balance! Tum log bas ulte loat pot ho ke comment pe comment karte ho — without even seeing that it’s not my account!”
He further condemned the lack of journalistic verification, saying such actions mislead the public and damage credibility.
