ISLAMABAD – A fresh increase in gas prices appears imminent across Pakistan as gas distribution companies have submitted formal requests to the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) seeking tariff hikes of up to 28.62%.
According to reports, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) have filed separate petitions. OGRA will hold public hearings on November 7 for SNGPL and November 11 for SSGCL.
SSGCL has proposed a 22% increase in gas tariffs for Sindh and Balochistan, citing outstanding dues from the previous fiscal year, while SNGPL has requested a 28.62% increase for consumers in Islamabad, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
SNGPL has also sought an additional PKR 189 per MMBTU increase in average gas prices and PKR 316.64 per MMBTU under the cost of LNG service.
If approved, the revised tariffs will further burden consumers already grappling with high inflation and rising energy costs.
