Lahore, November 2, 2025: The Punjab Home Department has extended the enforcement of Section 144 across the province for seven additional days, maintaining a ban on all forms of protests, rallies, sit-ins, public gatherings, and demonstrations.
According to an official spokesperson of the Home Department, the order prohibits the assembly of four or more people in public places, along with a complete ban on the display of weapons and the use of loudspeakers.
The directive also restricts the publication or distribution of inflammatory, hate-based, or sectarian material, with authorities warning of strict action against violators.
The spokesperson stated that the decision to extend Section 144 was made to ensure public safety, protection of life and property, and the maintenance of law and order across Punjab.
However, the restrictions do not apply to wedding ceremonies, funerals, or burials, and government officials performing official duties as well as court proceedings have been exempted.
The Home Department clarified that loudspeakers may only be used for the call to prayer (Azan) and Friday sermons.
A formal notification extending Section 144 enforcement until November 8 has been issued by the Punjab government.
