A delegation from Google for Education and Tech Valley met Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif in Lahore and proposed the establishment of a Chromebook manufacturing plant in Punjab — a move aimed at boosting local technology production and digital education.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz welcomed the initiative and assured Google of the Punjab government’s full support, emphasizing her administration’s commitment to advancing digital literacy, artificial intelligence (AI), and modern education, particularly for girls.
During the meeting, the delegation highlighted that upcoming Google Chromebooks in Pakistan would be equipped with three major educational software programs, including Google’s Gemini AI toolkit, the “Read Along” English learning app, and Canva, a global design and creativity platform.
Google representatives shared that over 2,000 public school teachers in Punjab have already received digital training under the Google for Education program, with more training initiatives underway to expand IT skills among educators.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz praised Google’s collaboration, stating that integrating information technology into basic education is a key goal of her government’s reform agenda. “We are determined to make Punjab an artificial intelligence hub,” she added.
The partnership marks a significant step toward expanding ed-tech infrastructure and promoting digital inclusion in Pakistan’s most populous province.
