In a first-of-its-kind initiative on World Children’s Day, Punjab Minister for School Education Rana Sikandar Hayat symbolically handed over his ministerial responsibilities to a high-achieving matric student, Abuzar, empowering him to experience governance and decision-making firsthand.
Abuzar arrived at the School Education Department in the Minister’s official vehicle, where senior officials welcomed the “Young Education Minister.” During the Minister’s absence, Abuzar chaired multiple meetings, actively contributing to key decisions alongside departmental officials.
The student reviewed Lahore’s educational landscape, sought updates on the School Teacher Intern (STI) recruitment process, and instructed officers to expedite the hardship transfer round. He was also briefed on initiatives to improve basic school facilities and consulted with officials on enhancing departmental processes.
Abuzar discussed scholarship schemes, fee waivers for underprivileged students, and transport facilities for teachers, emphasizing the importance of fee concessions for deserving students in private institutions and transport support for teachers posted in remote areas. He later addressed a press conference, sharing the day’s decisions and his experience overseeing departmental affairs.
Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat praised the initiative, stating that it aims to highlight children’s creativity, broaden their thinking, and encourage interest in governance and leadership. He added that no previous minister had undertaken such an activity, making it unique in concept and execution.
He further emphasized the Pakistan Muslim League (N) government’s commitment to nurturing the talent and potential of children across the province.
