LAHORE: The Emergency Services Department (ESD) reported 1,509 road traffic crashes across all 37 districts of Punjab in the last 24 hours, resulting in 16 deaths and 1,729 injuries.
According to officials, 707 seriously injured people were taken to hospitals, while 1,022 victims with minor injuries received treatment on the spot by Rescue teams, helping reduce pressure on hospitals.
Authorities said motorbikes were involved in 74% of the accidents, highlighting the urgent need for stricter traffic law enforcement and improved lane discipline.
Data further shows that the victims included 1,015 drivers, 78 underage drivers, 170 pedestrians, and 560 passengers.
Lahore recorded the highest number of accidents with 287 crashes affecting 230 people, followed by Faisalabad with 101 crashes and 115 victims, and Multan with 75 crashes and 84 victims.
A total of 1,745 people were affected, including 1,184 males and 561 females. Age-wise, 334 victims were under 18, 932 were between 18 and 40, and 479 were above 40 years old.
The vehicles involved included 1,468 motorbikes, 103 rickshaws, 202 cars, 34 vans, 13 buses, 36 trucks, and 135 other vehicles, including slow-moving carts.
