LAHORE: Punjab Police continued operations to curb smog and air pollution across the province, registering 15 cases and arresting several violators in the past 24 hours, including in Lahore.
According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, fines amounting to Rs1,013,000 were imposed on 483 individuals, while 43 people were issued warnings during the latest crackdown. Authorities recorded 280 violations involving smoke-emitting vehicles, three industrial violations, and eight violations related to brick kilns.
During the current year, police have registered 2,911 cases and arrested 2,587 violators under anti-smog operations. Fines exceeding Rs232.1 million were imposed on 97,924 individuals, while 13,689 warnings were issued across Punjab. Violations included 1,777 cases of crop residue burning, 59,053 violations by smoke-emitting vehicles, 1,401 industrial violations, and 2,226 brick kiln violations.
Inspector General of Punjab Police Dr. Usman Anwar directed officers to intensify the crackdown with a zero-tolerance policy across highways, industrial zones, agricultural areas, and other smog-prone locations.
