ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is witnessing a sharp rise in cybercrime, with complaints piling up faster than authorities can investigate.
According to a federal government report, the National Counter Cybercrime and Investigation Authority (NCCIA) received 112,663 complaints in 2025, up from 108,989 in 2024. However, only 26,036 cases were investigated, and just 1,955 formal cases were registered.
The shortage of investigative officers has been identified as a key challenge, prompting authorities to prepare a PC-I proposal for new recruitments. The Ministry of Interior plans to seek Prime Ministerial approval for NCCIA hiring to strengthen the agency’s capacity.
Officials warned that the surge in cybercrime has negatively impacted NCCIA’s performance, with unresolved complaints now exceeding 80,000, highlighting the urgent need for resources and manpower to tackle the growing digital threat.
