Leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have expressed disappointment over a recent press conference, emphasizing that if the current political climate persists, it could damage democratic institutions in the country.
During a press briefing, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar and Secretary Salman Akram Raja said:
Barrister Gohar expressed disappointment with yesterday’s press conference, stressing the need for all parties to give each other space, warning that continued tensions could undermine democracy.
He noted that the PTI leadership is currently in jail, and restrictions on meetings are complicating party operations.
Salman Akram Raja stated that PTI, the party of dialogue, believes its founder does not pose a security threat. He condemned violations of privacy and property rights after 9 May, saying such actions must come to an end.
Additionally, Asad Qaiser remarked that rejected voices claim meetings will not be allowed, highlighting ongoing political friction.
The remarks come a day after DG ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry asserted that “nothing is above the state of Pakistan,” criticizing an individual whose ambitions, he said, have grown to the point of claiming that if he is not present, nothing can happen.
PTI’s statements reflect rising political tensions and underscore the party’s call for dialogue and democratic space amid increasing restrictions.
