Dhaka: Former Bangladesh Prime Minister and chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Begum Khaleda Zia, has been placed on a ventilator after her condition deteriorated sharply, raising serious concern across diplomatic and political circles.
According to Bangladeshi media reports, the medical board treating the 80-year-old leader confirmed that she is suffering from severe respiratory distress along with multiple complications affecting her heart and lungs. Doctors say she was shifted to ventilator support to stabilize her vital organs and assist her breathing.
Khaleda Zia has been hospitalized since November 23 due to cardiac and pulmonary infections. Despite intensive treatment, her condition has continued to worsen.
International human rights groups and political observers have expressed concern over her health crisis. Meanwhile, BNP officials have renewed their call for the government to allow her immediate medical treatment abroad, citing the severity of her condition.
