LAHORE: At least 10 people were killed and 1,454 others injured in 1,281 road traffic crashes (RTCs) reported across all 37 districts of Punjab over the past 24 hours, according to the Emergency Services Department (ESD).
In a statement, ESD said that 644 critically injured victims were shifted to various hospitals, while 810 people with minor injuries were treated at the scene by Rescue Medical Teams, helping to reduce the burden on healthcare facilities.
Motorcycles accounted for the majority of incidents, with officials noting that 75 percent of reported crashes involved motorbikes. Authorities stressed that stricter enforcement of traffic laws, helmet use and lane discipline is essential to curb the rising number of road accidents.
The analysis showed that 818 drivers, 40 underage drivers, 154 pedestrians, and 492 passengers were among those affected.
Lahore recorded the highest number of accidents, with 200 RTCs affecting 217 people, followed by Multan, which reported 89 crashes involving 104 victims, and Faisalabad, where 86 RTCs left 101 people injured.
Further details revealed that a total of 1,464 victims were involved, including 1,173 men and 291 women. By age group, 227 victims were under 18 years, 809 were aged between 18 and 40, while 428 were above 40 years of age.
Data also showed the involvement of 1,156 motorcycles, 84 auto-rickshaws, 187 cars, 45 vans, 24 passenger buses, 61 trucks, and 150 other vehicles, including slow-moving carts.
Rescue officials reiterated the need for improved road safety awareness and stricter enforcement measures to prevent further loss of life.
