Sydney has reported an apparent hate incident targeting the Muslim community following the recent attack at Bondi Beach, with a Muslim cemetery in the city desecrated.
According to international media reports, the incident took place at a Muslim cemetery located in the southwestern Sydney suburb of Narellan. Unknown individuals allegedly vandalized graves and placed pig heads and other animal remains on and around them.
New South Wales Police said animal remains were found at the entrance and within the cemetery grounds. The remains have since been removed and disposed of, and a formal investigation has been launched. Authorities are examining the incident as a possible hate crime.
Religious and community leaders have strongly condemned the act, calling it a deliberate attempt to incite hatred and deepen social divisions. They urged authorities to ensure the safety of religious sites and bring those responsible to justice.
Police said security in the area has been increased, and community liaison officers are engaging with local Muslim leaders as investigations continue.
