LAHORE: Athletes from the National Grid Company of Pakistan (NGC) delivered a remarkable performance at the 35th National Games 2025, winning a total of 39 medals, including 10 gold, 13 silver, and 16 bronze, officials said on Tuesday.
The National Games were held in Karachi from December 6 to 13, where NGC athletes competed under the WAPDA banner across a wide range of disciplines.
In badminton, Mahoor Shehzad led the medal tally with two gold and one silver medal. Ali Larosh secured two silver medals, while Farzana won one bronze. In team events, the pairing of Ali Larosh and Awais Zahid claimed one gold and one silver, while Saima and Farzana earned one gold and one bronze.
In athletics, Yasir Sultan won silver in the javelin throw, while Awais Sajjad claimed gold in bodybuilding.
In boxing, Amir Khan secured a gold medal, while Jehanzaib Khan and Sana Ullah won bronze medals. In judo, Mahsam Nazakat, Ambreen, and Sonam Barkat captured silver medals, while Sabir Shah, Maryam, and Yousaf Riaz earned bronze.
The karate team comprising Ahtisham Hussain and Ibrahim won gold, while in swimming, Taimor Shahzad and Ali Sher each claimed bronze medals. In table tennis, Saadia Falak Sher secured one silver and one bronze, while in weightlifting, Hanzala Dastgir Butt won gold and Haider Ali claimed bronze. Wrestler Mohsin Ali also added a bronze medal to the tally.
In team sports, the WAPDA basketball team won gold, featuring NGC athlete Salman Butt. In football, the women’s team secured silver, while the men’s team won bronze, with NGC athletes Ashfaq-ud-Din, Muhammad Waqas, Muhammad Haroon, Hamad Hassan, and Sohail Shabbir representing the squads. The coaching staff included Nadeem Abdul Rehman, Basit Ali, and Burhan Ali.
The WAPDA softball team won silver, with NGC coach Malik Farhan Rashid associated with the squad. In hockey, NGC athlete Hamra Latif was part of the gold medal-winning women’s team, while Tazeem-ul-Hassan featured in the men’s team that claimed bronze.
The netball team secured bronze, with NGC’s Haris Kamal delivering an impressive performance, while the rugby team won silver, featuring NGC athlete Bilal Haider. In volleyball, the women’s team won silver and the men’s team secured bronze, with NGC athletes Jan Muhammad and Muhammad Umer, coached by Muhammad Bashir and Muhammad Yaseen Siddique.
Congratulating the athletes, Managing Director NGC Engr. Altaf Hussain Malik and President NGC Sports Association Engr. Dr. Khawaja Riffat Hassan praised the team’s outstanding achievements and expressed confidence that the athletes would continue to bring pride to the organization and the country in future national and international competitions.
