LAHORE: Punjab Cane Commissioner Amjad Hafeez has said that sugar prices across the province have declined significantly following the recent sugarcane crushing season, with the impact of reduced prices now beginning to reach consumers.
According to the Cane Commissioner, a notable decrease has been recorded in ex-mill sugar prices at sugar mills operating in various divisions of Punjab, which has subsequently led to a substantial reduction in retail prices.
He said that ex-mill sugar prices in the Bahawalpur Division are currently between Rs147 and Rs148 per kilogram, while similar rates have been reported at sugar mills in Rahim Yar Khan, ranging from Rs147 to Rs148 per kilogram. In the Dera Ghazi Khan Division, ex-mill prices have remained between Rs150 and Rs160 per kilogram.
Amjad Hafeez noted that the largest reduction in ex-mill sugar prices has been recorded in the Multan and Faisalabad divisions, where prices are now between Rs150 and Rs155 per kilogram.
In the Gujranwala Division, ex-mill sugar prices are comparatively higher, ranging from Rs164 to Rs166 per kilogram. Meanwhile, sugar mills in the Lahore, Sargodha, and Rawalpindi divisions have reported ex-mill prices between Rs150 and Rs160 per kilogram.
The Cane Commissioner added that the retail price of sugar across Punjab’s markets currently ranges from Rs147 to Rs166 per kilogram. He expressed optimism that prices would decline further in the coming days as sugar production continues to increase.
