LAHORE: At least 11 people were killed and 1,261 injured in 1,097 road traffic crashes (RTCs) reported across Punjab’s 37 districts over the last 24 hours, according to the Emergency Services Department (ESD).
Of the injured, 551 victims with serious injuries were shifted to hospitals, while 710 people with minor injuries were treated on-site by Rescue Medical Teams, easing the burden on healthcare facilities.
Officials noted that motorcycles were involved in 76 per cent of the reported crashes, underscoring the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws, helmet use, and lane discipline to curb the rising number of accidents.
Data analysis shows that the victims included 677 drivers, 35 underage drivers, 142 pedestrians, and 453 passengers.
In terms of districts, Lahore recorded the highest number of crashes, with 172 RTCs affecting 210 people, followed by Faisalabad, where 79 crashes injured 85 people, and Multan, which reported 72 crashes involving 71 victims.
Overall, 1,272 victims were affected, including 998 males and 274 females. Age-wise, 213 victims were under 18 years, 697 were between 18 and 40 years, while 362 were above 40 years of age.
Vehicle-wise statistics reveal that 1,031 motorcycles, 68 auto-rickshaws, 139 motorcars, 28 vans, 24 passenger buses, 35 trucks, and 117 other vehicles, including slow-moving carts, were involved in the reported accidents.
The ESD has reiterated its call for improved road safety awareness, strict compliance with traffic regulations, and preventive measures to reduce fatalities and injuries on Punjab’s roads.
