LAHORE: At least 15 people were killed and 1,301 others injured in 1,129 road traffic crashes (RTCs) reported across Punjab over the past 24 hours, according to the Emergency Services Department (ESD).
Rescue 1122 teams responded to emergencies in all 37 districts of the province. Of the injured, 582 people with serious injuries were shifted to hospitals, while 719 victims with minor injuries were treated at the scene by rescue medical teams, helping to reduce pressure on healthcare facilities.
According to the ESD, motorcycles were involved in the majority of crashes, accounting for 77 percent of all reported incidents. Officials stressed that stricter enforcement of traffic laws and improved lane discipline are essential to curb the rising number of road accidents.
The data further showed that 712 drivers, 43 underage drivers, 144 pedestrians, and 460 passengers were among those affected in the reported crashes.
Lahore recorded the highest number of incidents, with 223 road traffic crashes involving 259 victims, placing the provincial capital at the top of the list. Faisalabad followed with 75 crashes affecting 97 people, while Multan ranked third with 67 crashes and 82 victims.
In total, 1,316 victims were involved in the accidents, including 1,056 males and 260 females. Age-wise analysis revealed that 260 victims were under the age of 18, 677 were between 18 and 40 years old, and 376 were above 40 years of age.
The report also detailed the types of vehicles involved in the crashes, including 1,023 motorcycles, 92 auto-rickshaws, 172 motorcars, 36 vans, 13 passenger buses, 42 trucks, and 117 other vehicles, including slow-moving carts.
Authorities reiterated the need for improved road safety awareness, enforcement of traffic regulations, and responsible driving behavior to prevent further loss of life and injuries across the province.
