ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has ordered a comprehensive plan to transform Islamabad Safe City into a Capital Smart City and announced that, starting January 1, vehicles without M-Tags will be prohibited from entering the city.
Minister Naqvi, accompanied by State Minister Talal Chaudhry, visited the Safe City Headquarters, where he reviewed the city monitoring system on the digital wall and observed security and public safety operations using advanced technology. The team also inspected the special Chinese desk overseeing surveillance in the control room.
During a high-level meeting chaired by the Interior Minister, officials reviewed measures for the protection of citizens’ lives and property. Naqvi instructed authorities to accelerate the Capital Smart City initiative and integrate key services—such as Rescue 1122, traffic management, security, and CDA operations—into a centralized system.
He said the scope of the Capital Smart City project will eventually be expanded nationwide, making Islamabad a model city for safety and smart governance. The minister emphasized that the effective use of technology and reforms in Safe City operations is critical to modern urban management.
The IG Islamabad Police provided a detailed briefing on the transition from Safe City to Capital Smart City, highlighting that the city’s surveillance cameras helped save time and resources during Muharram. The meeting was also attended by the Federal Secretary Interior, Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Additional Deputy Commissioner General, and other senior officials.
