ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The preliminary list of official public holidays for 2026 has been released, though the final schedule will be announced by the Cabinet Division closer to the start of the year. Islamic festival holidays are subject to the sighting of the moon.
According to the proposed schedule:
Kashmir Day: The first official holiday of 2026 is expected on Thursday, February 5.
Eid al-Fitr: A three-day holiday is anticipated from Saturday, March 21, to Monday, March 23, pending the sighting of the Shawwal moon.
Labour Day: Observed on Friday, May 1.
Youm-e-Takbeer: A public holiday is expected on Saturday, May 28.
Eid al-Adha: A three-day holiday is likely to start on Wednesday, May 27, subject to the lunar calendar.
Ashura: Holidays are expected on Thursday, June 25, and Friday, June 26 during Muharram.
Independence Day: National holiday on Friday, August 14.
Eid Milad-un-Nabi ﷺ: Observed on Wednesday, August 26, pending confirmation.
Iqbal Day: Expected on Thursday, November 9.
Quaid-e-Azam Day and Christmas: Expected in December, with December 26 being a limited holiday applicable to Christian employees only.
Officials noted that all Islamic holidays are provisional and will be finalized after moon sightings. The full official notification for 2026 public holidays will be issued by the federal government in the coming months.
