ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – Barrister Mian Ali Ashfaq, the counsel for former DG ISI Lt Gen (Retd) Faiz Hameed, has categorically dismissed reports suggesting that his client is becoming a state witness (approver) against PTI founder Imran Khan. Addressing the media and political circles, Ashfaq labeled such claims as “speculative and baseless.”
The clarification comes in response to repeated statements from certain federal ministers and Senator Faisal Vawda, who suggested that the former spy chief might testify against the former Prime Minister. These speculations often link the two figures in the context of the May 9, 2023, violent events and an alleged “nexus” between them.
Speaking to The News, Barrister Ashfaq stated there is “no truth” to the reports of Faiz Hameed considering a deal to testify. When asked if he had discussed the matter directly with his client, the lawyer affirmed that he knows this to be a “fact,” reinforcing the stance that the question of becoming an approver does not arise.
These developments follow the recent sentencing of Faiz Hameed to 14 years of imprisonment by a military court. Despite the official narrative suggesting a connection between the former DG ISI and the events of May 9, his legal team maintains that any reports of him turning against Imran Khan are purely grounded in rumors.
