LAHORE — Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has announced a series of landmark welfare initiatives on the occasion of the New Year for the special children of police employees and the families of police martyrs, including the doubling of monthly stipends and a major boost to housing support funds.
Sharing details of the measures, DIG Welfare Zeeshan Asghar said that the monthly stipend for 165 children of police employees suffering from thalassemia has been increased from Rs15,000 to Rs30,000, while the stipend for 677 children affected by cerebral palsy has been raised from Rs10,000 to Rs20,000.
He added that approval has also been granted for a monthly stipend of Rs10,000 for children of police employees diagnosed with autism, marking a new inclusion in the welfare framework.
The DIG Welfare further disclosed that an additional Rs500 million has been allocated to the Endowment Fund established for the construction of houses for the families of police martyrs who were martyred before 2017, with the aim of accelerating the provision of housing to deserving families.
According to officials, during the year 2025, the Central Police Office and district police collectively spent nearly Rs8 billion on welfare initiatives, while approximately Rs270 million is being spent daily on the welfare of police personnel and their families across Punjab.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar said the police force functions as a family, and the care of employees, their children, and the families of martyrs remains the department’s top priority. He stressed that all available welfare resources are being utilized to ensure the health, education, and well-being of police employees’ children, and that the mission to provide housing to the families of martyrs prior to 2017 will continue without interruption.
According to a spokesperson for Punjab Police, more than Rs1.8 million is being spent on each cochlear implant surgery for hearing-impaired children of police employees. Substantial financial assistance is also being provided from welfare funds for the treatment of children suffering from various serious illnesses.
