LAHORE: Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan on Tuesday said that vibrant business activity is indispensable for economic stability, stressing that national development is directly linked to economic improvement.
He made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation of the Lahore Chamber of Small Traders and Small Industries at the Governor House in Lahore. The delegation was led by Muhammad Amjad Chaudhry and Azmat Ali Shah.
The governor said that providing a conducive environment for traders could significantly accelerate business activity and generate employment opportunities. “When the business community is strengthened, the country’s economy improves and prosperity follows,” he added.
Sardar Saleem Haider Khan said he has been consistently engaging with the business community since assuming office, underlining the need for a one-window operation to facilitate traders and investors. He emphasized that policymaking without consultation with stakeholders is counterproductive.
Highlighting challenges faced by overseas Pakistanis, the governor said that many investors do not find a supportive environment upon returning to invest in the country. “The system needs to change,” he said, calling for economic policies to be formulated in close consultation with the business community and for practical measures to ensure an enabling business climate.
The delegation welcomed the governor’s views and shared concerns regarding regulatory hurdles and the need for streamlined procedures to support small traders and industries.
