Tehran: Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has said that certain “troublemakers” are damaging public property in an attempt to please former US President Donald Trump, urging Washington to focus on its own internal problems.
Addressing the public in Iran, Ayatollah Khamenei called on citizens to maintain unity and remain vigilant. He said that a group of individuals had vandalised buildings in Tehran and other locations the previous night, stressing that the Islamic Republic would not tolerate what he described as “mercenary forces.”
“The Islamic Republic will not accept hired elements who seek to harm the country from within,” he said, without elaborating on the identities of those involved.
His remarks came after a recent statement by former US President Donald Trump, in which he asserted that he had full authority to order military strikes or acts of aggression against countries around the world. Trump said that as commander-in-chief, he alone determines the limits of his powers, adding that the only restraints on his actions were his own judgment and moral considerations.
The exchange reflects continuing tensions between Tehran and Washington, amid heightened rhetoric and long-standing political and strategic differences between the two countries.
