LAHORE: At least 12 people were killed and 1,319 injured in 1,154 road traffic crashes (RTCs) reported across all 37 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours, according to the Emergency Services Department (ESD).
Of the injured, 553 people with critical injuries were shifted to hospitals, while 766 victims with minor injuries were provided on-site medical treatment by Rescue medical teams, significantly reducing the burden on hospitals.
The data shows that motorcycles were involved in 89 percent of the reported crashes, underscoring the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws, helmet use and lane discipline to curb the rising number of accidents.
According to the analysis, the victims included 783 drivers, 56 underage drivers, 139 pedestrians and 409 passengers. Lahore recorded the highest number of incidents, with 213 RTCs affecting 257 people, followed by Faisalabad, which reported 83 crashes involving 89 victims, and Multan, with 71 crashes and 76 victims.
Overall, 1,331 victims were affected, including 1,099 males and 232 females. Age-wise data indicates that 210 victims were under 18 years, 788 were between 18 and 40 years, while 333 were above 40 years of age.
The report further revealed that the crashes involved 1,136 motorcycles, 73 auto-rickshaws, 171 cars, 46 vans, 27 passenger buses, 48 trucks, and 136 other vehicles, including slow-moving carts.
