KARACHI: Pakistan Customs successfully thwarted two gold smuggling attempts at Jinnah International Airport, recovering 100 tola of gold bars and $11,900 in foreign currency, according to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
In two separate operations conducted at the airport, customs officials confiscated 10 gold bars from passengers. The total value of the seized contraband in both cases amounts to Rs 50.682 million, authorities confirmed.
The gold and foreign currency were recovered from passengers bound for Dubai and Istanbul. Customs officials intercepted the smugglers during routine security checks at the departure lounge.
Following the seizure, cases have been registered under the Customs Act, and legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused smugglers. The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue.
This operation is part of Pakistan Customs’ ongoing efforts to curb illegal trafficking of precious metals and foreign currency through the country’s airports. Authorities have intensified surveillance and inspection procedures to prevent such smuggling activities.
