LAHORE: At least 15 people were killed and 1,602 others injured in 1,362 road traffic crashes (RTCs) reported across all 37 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours, according to the Emergency Services Department (ESD).
An ESD spokesperson said that out of the total injured, 654 victims with serious injuries were shifted to various hospitals, while 948 people with minor injuries were provided first aid at the scene by Rescue Medical Teams, helping to reduce the burden on hospitals.
The data revealed that motorbikes were involved in the majority of crashes, accounting for 74 percent of total incidents. Authorities emphasized that strict enforcement of traffic laws and improved lane discipline are critical to curbing the rising number of road traffic accidents.
According to the analysis, the victims included 857 drivers, 60 underage drivers, 201 pedestrians, and 559 passengers. Lahore topped the list with 245 reported RTCs affecting 314 people, followed by Faisalabad with 97 crashes and 102 victims, while Multan ranked third with 96 crashes impacting 117 individuals.
Further details showed that a total of 1,617 victims were affected, including 1,296 males and 321 females. Age-wise analysis indicated that 278 victims were under 18 years of age, 884 were between 18 and 40 years, and 455 were above 40 years.
The report also highlighted the types of vehicles involved in the crashes, which included 1,409 motorbikes, 114 auto-rickshaws, 179 motorcars, 42 vans, 13 passenger buses, 27 trucks, and 121 other vehicles, including slow-moving carts.
