Lahore: Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan has described the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a “game-changer” for the development and prosperity of Pakistan. He highlighted the key role played by President Asif Ali Zardari in advancing CPEC during his tenure.
The Governor made these remarks while meeting Chinese Consul General Zhao Shiren, who called on him at Governor House Lahore for a farewell visit. Governor Khan appreciated the services of the outgoing Consul General, who presented him with the honorary shield of Pak-China Friendship.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Khan said, “Pak-China friendship is higher than the Himalayas,” emphasizing the mutual support between the two countries during difficult times. He underscored that the Pak-China relationship is a cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy, in which the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has played a significant role. He noted that between 2008 and 2013, President Zardari made 14 official visits to China, further strengthening bilateral ties.
The Governor also thanked Consul General Zhao Shiren for his contribution in establishing a dispensary in a remote area of Attock. He added that, with the cooperation of China and the Red Crescent, the dispensary for the underprivileged is now in the final stages of completion and will be inaugurated soon.
In his farewell remarks, Consul General Zhao Shiren expressed gratitude to the people of Pakistan and Punjab for their warmth and hospitality. He said that the strong bond of brotherhood and friendship between the peoples of China and Pakistan will continue, and bilateral cooperation will persist at all levels in the future.
