Lahore: Punjab University (PU) Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali, has highlighted that PU campuses host a wide variety of bird species, enhancing the natural beauty of the university. He praised the role of faculty members in protecting the environment and conserving bird life.
The remarks were made during the book launch ceremony of “Birds of the University of the Punjab”, authored by Dr. Bushra Nisar Khan, organized by the PU Institute of Zoology on Friday.
The ceremony was attended by Vice Chancellor University of Mianwali Prof. Dr. Nadeem Sheikh, Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalid Mahmood, Director Institute of Zoology Prof. Dr. Nabila Roohi, Professor Emeritus Dr. A. Addressing the event, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali said that teachers’ roles extend beyond classroom teaching, as they transfer knowledge to the next generation through books. He also noted that population growth affects agriculture and bird breeding. He congratulated the author for producing a comprehensive publication on PU’s bird species.
Prof. Dr. Khalid Mahmood added that writing such a detailed book despite limited resources reflects how teachers are also actively contributing to environmental conservation. He said the abundance of trees on PU campuses keeps the temperature moderate even in summer.
Prof. Dr. A. R. Shakoori described Punjab University as one of the most beautiful educational institutions globally, calling the idea of documenting campus birds commendable. Dr. Nabila Roohi said the book would be valuable for researchers in preserving bird species.
Author Dr. Bushra Nisar Khan shared that publishing this book on PU birds was a long-held dream, providing detailed information on 105 bird species, making it a significant resource for students and researchers.
