ISLAMABAD – According to the latest data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, weekly inflation increased by 0.09 percent, pushing the annual inflation rate to 4.84 percent.
During the past week, prices of 12 essential commodities witnessed an increase, while 13 items including wheat flour and eggs became cheaper. However, on an annual basis, flour prices surged by 35 percent and gas prices increased by up to 30 percent over the past year.
Items that became expensive this week include vegetables, fruits, sugar, meat, and other kitchen essentials. Rising energy costs have also added pressure on household budgets. Wheat flour, eggs, tomatoes, and some other commodities saw marginal price reductions, though analysts suggest these decreases may be temporary due to seasonal factors.
Statistics reveal significant increases in basic food items over the past twelve months, severely impacting middle-class and low-income families. The surge in flour and gas prices has been particularly burdensome for common citizens. Economic analysts suggest the government needs to implement more effective measures to control inflation and provide relief to the general public.
