Islamabad — February 8, 2026
President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari has expressed grave concerns, stating that the Afghan Taliban regime has created a situation in Afghanistan that is more dangerous than the period before the September 11, 2001 attacks. He warned that this development poses a serious threat not only to Pakistan but to regional and global peace.
In his statement, President Zardari emphasized that Pakistan has long maintained that no single country can combat terrorism alone — it is a shared responsibility. He lamented that certain neighboring countries have become complicit in crime by permitting terrorist elements to carry out operations against Pakistan from their territory. Furthermore, some states are directly financing these groups while also supplying them with technical and military resources.
Referring to Pakistan’s eastern neighbor, the President accused it of supporting the Taliban regime, thereby endangering not just Pakistan but the entire region and international security. The remarks come in the wake of recent terrorist incidents in Pakistan, including a suicide bombing at a mosque and Imambargah in Islamabad’s suburbs that killed and injured numerous people.
President Zardari thanked the international community, world leaders, and nations for expressing solidarity with Pakistan following these attacks. He reiterated the need for collective resolve and cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
