Islamabad/Kabul:
Pakistan’s pharmaceutical exports to Afghanistan have been severely affected due to the closure of the Torkham and Chaman border crossings since October 2025, putting nearly $200 million worth of drug exports at risk.
Industry sources say hundreds of trucks carrying medicines remain stranded at border points, causing significant financial losses to Pakistani exporters and raising fears of potential medicine shortages in Afghanistan.
Health expert Dr. Qaiser Waheed said Pakistan has long played a vital role in supporting Afghanistan’s healthcare system.
He warned that disruptions in the supply of life-saving medicines could trigger a serious humanitarian crisis.
Business and health stakeholders have urged authorities in both countries to allow the immediate clearance of pharmaceutical consignments on humanitarian grounds to prevent further damage.
