LAHORE: The shrine of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh (RA) in Lahore has recorded a historic surge in weekly cash collections following new administrative and monitoring measures introduced by the Punjab Auqaf Department.
According to officials, the cash opening for the week ending February 9, 2026, reached a record Rs. 8.3 million (Rs. 83,01,870), compared to Rs. 4.8 million (Rs. 48,19,990) recorded on the corresponding date last year, marking an increase of over 72 percent.
The rise comes after Dr. Ehsan Bhutta assumed charge as Secretary Auqaf Punjab and Chief Administrator Auqaf Punjab, introducing stricter oversight and monitoring systems. Authorities say special Headquarter Monitoring Teams were deployed to ensure transparency and improve financial management.
Official figures show a steady upward trend in recent weeks:
January 19, 2026 – Rs. 4.75 million
January 26, 2026 – Rs. 3.98 million
February 2, 2026 – Rs. 5.46 million
February 9, 2026 – Rs. 8.31 million
Prior to the implementation of the new monitoring mechanism, weekly cash collections reportedly ranged between Rs. 2.5 million and Rs. 3.2 million.
A spokesperson for Auqaf Punjab attributed the increase to strengthened transparency measures, improved administrative controls, and enhanced oversight at the shrine.
Dr. Bhutta said transparency, accountability, and efficient management of shrine funds remain key priorities. He added that the increased revenue would be utilized to improve facilities for devotees, expand welfare initiatives, and further strengthen shrine management across Punjab.
Data Darbar, one of South Asia’s most prominent Sufi shrines, attracts thousands of devotees daily and serves as a major religious and cultural landmark in Pakistan.
