LAHORE, Pakistan: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Kareem visited the Investigation Headquarters Punjab on Thursday, where he reviewed ongoing reform initiatives and stressed the need to modernize investigative processes in line with evolving crime trends.
He was received by Additional IG Investigation Shahzada Sultan and other senior officers, who briefed him on administrative matters, operational challenges, service delivery and reform measures within the Investigation Wing.
During the visit, the IGP inspected the Monitoring Cell, Fingerprints Bureau and an under-construction Khidmat Markaz (Service Center). He also reviewed the functioning of the recently established Surveillance Video Cell, which monitors activities at all 747 police stations across the province.
Officials informed the police chief that the Surveillance Cell enables continuous monitoring of police station front desks, station house officer (SHO) offices, record rooms, lock-ups and other sections. Efforts are under way to upgrade record management and investigation systems to improve transparency, efficiency and reliability, they added.
The IGP also received a detailed briefing on the quality of investigations, timely submission of charge sheets (challans), and coordination with prosecution authorities. He said restructuring the investigation system to align with modern investigative requirements was essential to ensure accountability and successful prosecution of offenders.
Abdul Kareem directed authorities to further strengthen digital data systems and upgrade infrastructure at the Investigation Headquarters. He emphasized the need for improved coordination between investigation officers, prosecutors and the judiciary.
Special focus was placed on improving the quality and effectiveness of investigations in cases involving women, child abuse, harassment and violence, officials said.
Senior officers, including DIG Investigation Shoaib Khurram Janbaz, AIG Monitoring Asim Iftikhar Kamboh, SSP Admin Bushra Nisar and other officials, were also present during the visit.
