RAWALPINDI — Pakistan’s military media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), has declared it will conduct operations against terrorists “regardless of their location,” signalling a potential escalation toward cross-border strikes, following a suicide bombing in Bannu that claimed the lives of two soldiers.
ISPR directly blamed the Hafiz Gul Bahadur Group, operating from Afghan soil, for orchestrating the attack and said the Afghan Taliban government has “completely failed” to prevent its territory from being used as a base for terrorism against Pakistan.
According to ISPR, acting on intelligence, security forces intercepted a vehicle-borne suicide attacker before he could reach civilian areas of Bannu city. When stopped, the attacker detonated his explosives-laden vehicle against a military convoy. Lt. Colonel Shahzada Gulfraz and Sepoy Karamat Shah were martyred in the blast, while five militants were killed in the immediate counter-operation.
ISPR stated that a major tragedy was averted through the timely response of the troops, and confirmed that operations will continue “until the last terrorist is eliminated.”
Defence analysts view the strongly worded statement as a clear warning to Kabul that Islamabad’s patience has reached its limits.
