ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Dr. Yasmin Rashid has approached the Supreme Court of Pakistan challenging the election tribunal’s verdict regarding the victory of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
In her petition, Dr. Yasmin Rashid has named Nawaz Sharif and 15 others as respondents. The appeal argues that the election tribunal dismissed the case on technical grounds without thoroughly examining the facts and the applicable law.
The petition further contends that alterations in Form-45 were in violation of constitutional requirements of electoral transparency. It maintains that issuing notices to candidates before compiling the final results is a legal obligation, which was not fulfilled in this case. According to the appeal, the final results were prepared without serving notices to the concerned candidates.
Dr. Yasmin Rashid has requested the apex court to set aside the election tribunal’s decision and declare her as the returned candidate. The petition was filed by Advocate Muhammad Ali Bukhari through Advocate-on-Record Anis Muhammad Shehzad.
