Rajanpur —
Two of the most wanted and high-reward bandits in Rahim Yar Khan, Tanveer Andhar and Zafri Jhameel, surrendered before police on Thursday during the ongoing security operation in the Rajanpur region of southern Punjab.
Tanveer Andhar carried a bounty of PKR 10 million on his head, while Zafri Jhameel had a reward of PKR 5 million announced by the government for information leading to his arrest or surrender.
District Police Officer (DPO) Irfan told media that no organised criminal gang remains operational in the Kacha area, marking a significant milestone in the prolonged counter-banditry campaign. He confirmed that the total number of outlaws who have surrendered during the operation has now risen to 229.
However, the operation has come at a heavy cost. DPO Irfan disclosed that 52 police officers have been martyred during the crackdown.
Earlier, seven proclaimed offenders belonging to the Shar Gang had also laid down their arms during the Nijat-e-Mehran Operation in the Ronti Kacha area of Ghotki district.
Police officials said the surrendered outlaws face multiple serious charges including murder, tribal clashes, and robbery, and will be processed through the legal system accordingly.
The Kacha region — a dense riverine belt along the Indus — has long been a notorious stronghold for armed gangs that have terrorised local communities and challenged law enforcement for decades. Security officials say the current operation represents one of the most effective crackdowns in recent memory.
