ISLAMABAD — Pakistan’s armed forces have inflicted heavy casualties on Afghan Taliban fighters in a large-scale military operation along the Afghan border, killing 133 militants and wounding more than 200 others in what officials are calling Operation Azm-ul-Haq (Wrath of Justice).
According to security sources, Pakistani ground forces destroyed 16 Taliban border posts and seized control of 7 others, hoisting the national flag over captured positions. More than 36 Taliban tanks, along with artillery guns and armoured personnel carriers (APCs), were destroyed during the fierce counteroffensive. Several Taliban outposts were abandoned by fleeing militants.
The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) played a decisive role in the operation, conducting sustained airstrikes that obliterated a Taliban battalion headquarters, a sector command centre, and an ammunition depot. Security forces also successfully neutralised multiple quadcopter drone attacks launched by the Taliban, shooting down all unmanned aerial vehicles before they could reach their targets.
However, the conflict has also claimed civilian casualties amid reports of Taliban retaliatory strikes on populated areas. In the Bajaur district, mortar shells fired by Taliban militants wounded five civilians, including three women. In a particularly alarming development, militants also targeted a mosque in the area, drawing widespread condemnation from religious and civil society leaders.
Security officials stated that the operation remains ongoing, with Pakistani forces systematically targeting remaining Taliban positions along the border.
