WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump has expressed strong support for Pakistan amid its ongoing military operation against Afghanistan, saying he will not intervene in the conflict and that Pakistan is handling the situation correctly.
Speaking publicly on the matter, Trump praised Pakistan’s leadership, saying: “Pakistan has a great Prime Minister and a great General — great leadership.” He added that these are two individuals he holds in very high regard.
Trump’s remarks come as Pakistan’s Operation Azm-ul-Haq continues along the Afghan border, with the Pakistani military reporting 274 Taliban regime personnel killed and 18 checkpoints captured. The US President’s statement is being widely interpreted as implicit endorsement of Pakistan’s military campaign.
The comments mark a notable diplomatic development, signaling that Washington does not plan to pressure Islamabad over its cross-border military actions against the Afghan Taliban regime.
