KARACHI: Four large cargo vessels carrying a combined 250 million litres of petrol have successfully docked at Port Qasim, bolstering the country’s petroleum reserves. Port authorities confirmed that all four ships have anchored safely and the offloading process has been set in motion.
Port officials further revealed that a fifth vessel, carrying 55,000 tonnes of petrol, is scheduled to dock at Port Qasim on March 12, which will further strengthen the country’s fuel stockpiles.
The development comes at a time when questions had been raised over fuel availability and pricing in the country. Energy analysts say the large-scale import will ensure stable fuel supply across Pakistan, eliminating any risk of a potential shortage in the near term.
Petroleum Activity at Port Qasim:
4 ships — carrying 250 million litres of petrol — have docked
5th ship — carrying 55,000 tonnes of petrol — arriving March 12
Offloading operations currently underway
The significant boost to petroleum reserves is seen as a positive development for both the economy and the general public. However, citizens continue to hope that the government will pass on the benefit of reduced import costs in the form of lower petrol prices at the pump.
