LAHORE: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Kareem met police personnel and their family members at the Central Police Office and listened to their concerns, issuing directions to the relevant officers to ensure immediate relief.
According to details, on the request for financial assistance submitted by Lady Head Constable Uzma Khanum, the IG Punjab directed the Additional IG Welfare and Finance to provide relief. On the transfer request of Stenographer Azhar Shafiq, directions were issued to the Additional IG Punjab to place the matter under consideration. Similarly, on the application of retired Sub-Inspector Malik Ashraf, the SSP Operations Lahore was directed to take necessary action.
IG Punjab Abdul Kareem, while issuing directions on other applications related to discipline, administration, promotion and welfare, said that the welfare of employees of the Punjab Police and their families is his top priority and that their issues will be resolved in a timely and effective manner.
Meanwhile, under the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the initiative “Justice at Your Doorstep” is being implemented to improve policing and investigation standards. Under this initiative, Punjab Police has accelerated measures to ensure immediate protection of crime scenes and effective investigations.
On the directions of IG Punjab Abdul Kareem, crime scene protection kits have been provided to vehicles of 747 police stations across the province, including Lahore. A spokesperson for the Punjab Police said each police station vehicle has been equipped with special kits containing crime scene long cones, cordon tape and markers so that the crime scene can be secured immediately after an incident and evidence can be protected from being destroyed.
IG Punjab Abdul Kareem said that protection of the crime scene is a fundamental part of the investigation process and that proper and timely preservation of the scene helps safeguard evidence and improve the quality of investigation.
Additional IG Investigation Punjab Shahzada Sultan said that police officers are being provided special First Responder training for this purpose, and 500 master trainers have already been prepared. He added that with the cooperation of coordinators from the Punjab Forensic Science Authority, professional training of police officers is ongoing, and officers from Constable to Inspector rank will be trained in crime scene management.
He further said that professional training of police officers is continuing in line with modern requirements of forensic science so that the investigation process can be made more effective, transparent and aligned with contemporary standards.
