UO Syndicate Approves 65 Appointments, Rs1.7 Billion Budget

LAHORE: The Syndicate of University of Okara, in its 28th meeting, approved 61 appointments and 4 promotions recommended by the Selection Board. The revised budget for the financial year 2025-26, amounting to Rs1,700 million, was also approved based on the recommendations of the 19th Finance & Planning Committee (F&PC).
The meeting was chaired by Punjab Minister for Higher Education Rana Sikandar Hayat, who appreciated the Vice Chancellor of UO, Prof Dr Sajjad Mubin, for steering the institution on the right track by ensuring transparency and meritocracy, while also initiating a range of projects for academic and infrastructural development.
The Registrar of UO, Jamil Asim, presented the agenda, while Public Relations Officer Sharjeel Ahmed shared the progress report of the institution under the tenure of the incumbent VC. The Minister and all Syndicate members, including Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmed, Prof Dr Muhammad Wajid, Salman Ghani, Mazhar Ali Khan, Zahida Azhar, Mian Muneer Ahmed, Chaudary Javed Allaudin, Motia Baigam, Shazia Khizar, Shahid Imtiaz, Ghulam Nabi, and Javed Iqbal Bukhari, commended the remarkable growth of the university under Prof Mubin’s leadership.
The main agenda of the meeting included approval of selection boards for appointments in various departments, such as:

Assistant Professor and Lecturer of International Relations
Assistant Professor of Fine Arts
Assistant Professor of Chemistry
Assistant Professor of Commerce
Assistant Professor of Islamic Studies
Lecturer of English Linguistics
Assistant Professor and Lecturer of Special Education
Lecturer of Biochemistry
Assistant Director ORIC
Assistant Engineer (Civil)
Assistant Professor of Management Sciences
Deputy Treasurer
Lecturer of Sociology
All cases were approved by the Syndicate.
Additionally, the Syndicate reviewed policies for the Day Care Center and House Allotment, and approved leave cases for various faculty members.
On the recommendation of Waqar Ahmed Sheikh, Additional Registrar, regarding the probe report of Dr Shehla Honey, Assistant Professor (TTS) of Physics, the Syndicate unanimously decided to initiate a formal inquiry under the PEDA Act by constituting a high-profile committee. The probe report highlighted fundamental violations of HEC policies, misconduct, misrepresentation of information, financial irregularities, misbehavior towards colleagues, illegal inclusion of IPFP period in TTS service, unreported foreign visits, and failure in academic performance by Dr Honey.
