LAHORE: At least 10 people were killed and 1,367 injured in 1,201 road traffic crashes reported across the 37 districts of Punjab during the past 24 hours, according to the Emergency Services Department Punjab.
Officials said that out of the injured victims, 587 people with serious injuries were shifted to various hospitals, while 780 individuals with minor injuries were provided first aid at the scene by Rescue medical teams, helping reduce the burden on hospitals.
Data analysis revealed that motorbikes were involved in about 75 percent of the accidents, highlighting the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and better lane discipline to curb the rising number of road crashes.
According to the report, the victims included 772 drivers, 66 underage drivers, 172 pedestrians, and 433 passengers.
The provincial capital Lahore recorded the highest number of accidents, with 238 crashes affecting 275 people. It was followed by Faisalabad, where 91 accidents injured 99 people, and Multan, which reported 76 crashes with 84 victims.
Statistics further showed that a total of 1,377 victims were affected, including 1,072 men and 305 women. Among them, 225 were under the age of 18, 773 were between 18 and 40 years, while 379 victims were over 40 years of age.
The data also revealed that 1,280 motorbikes, 82 auto-rickshaws, 127 motorcars, 23 vans, 9 passenger buses, 44 trucks, and 53 other types of vehicles and slow-moving carts were involved in the reported accidents.
Authorities stressed the importance of traffic law enforcement, helmet use, and responsible driving practices to reduce the growing number of road traffic accidents across the province.
