LAHORE: The Punjab Horticulture Authority (PHA) has directed district horticulture agencies to increase their own-source income and reduce reliance on government funding, a spokesperson said Thursday.
Agencies have been instructed to submit consolidated proposals outlining potential revenue streams. Traditional avenues include outdoor commercial advertising through billboards, digital screens, and banners.
At a meeting of district managing directors, chaired by Additional Director General Mirza Waleed Baig, additional revenue measures were discussed, including commercial nurseries and flower shops.
The spokesperson stated that revenues earned through marketing initiatives would help agencies overcome financial constraints and create the fiscal space needed to implement horticultural plans more effectively.
He emphasized that the authority remains committed to ensuring a clean and green Punjab, with a particular focus on remote districts. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has also placed special emphasis on urban beautification projects.
“Under the leadership of Director General Raja Mansoor Ahmad, PHA is working tirelessly to optimize resources and maximize revenue potential, ensuring the department is not solely dependent on government funding,” the spokesperson added.
He further noted that strong revenue growth will provide a sustainable platform to expand the department’s reach, environmental impact, and revenue generation across the province
