LAHORE: Lahore Police has made significant progress in a high-profile robbery case that took place in the Defence area of Lahore, as new facts regarding a suspect killed during a police encounter have come to light.
According to a spokesperson for the DIG Operations, the complainant in the robbery case has formally identified the suspect killed in the encounter as Zazai Nithari. Initial investigations indicate that the suspect was directly involved in the robbery along with his accomplices.
Police officials said the deceased suspect was an active ringleader of an Afghan robbery gang operating in Lahore. The group was reportedly involved in multiple criminal activities across different parts of the city, using modern and unusual methods.
The spokesperson further revealed that members of the gang used sophisticated signal jammers during robberies. These devices temporarily disabled mobile phone and internet services in the targeted areas, preventing victims from immediately contacting authorities or seeking help.
Investigations also revealed that eight to ten members of the same gang had previously been killed in separate police encounters. Meanwhile, raids are currently underway at various locations to arrest the remaining suspects.
The DIG Operations spokesperson stated that the other suspects involved in the robbery would be arrested soon. He added that Lahore Police will continue its crackdown against dangerous criminal gangs involved in serious crimes and is utilizing all available resources to ensure the protection of citizens’ lives and property.
