LAHORE: On the directions of Inspector General Police Punjab Abdul Kareem, Punjab Police has finalised a comprehensive security plan for Chand Raat and Eid al-Fitr across Punjab.
According to the plan, security will remain on high alert, with additional personnel deployed throughout the province, including Lahore. More than 17,000 officers and personnel, including lady police officials, will be deployed at markets and key locations on Chand Raat, while 5,000 personnel will perform duties in the provincial capital alone.
On Eid-ul-Fitr, over 47,000 police officers and personnel will be deployed to provide security for approximately 29,000 Eid congregations across the province. In Lahore, around 10,000 personnel will be assigned to security duties.
The IG Punjab stated that, in coordination with the Special Branch, Counter Terrorism Department, and other security agencies, strict vigilance will be maintained against terrorists and miscreant elements. Enhanced monitoring will also be ensured at inter-provincial borders and riverine police check posts.
Authorities will utilize CCTV surveillance to continuously monitor mosques, imambargahs, الأسواق, and other sensitive locations. Special units including Dolphin Squad, Police Response Unit (PRU), and Elite Force will conduct effective patrolling around key areas.
The police have imposed a strict ban on one-wheeling, aerial firing, hooliganism, and kite flying, warning of firm action against violators. Special directives have also been issued to prevent harassment of women and families in public places.
The IG Punjab further instructed Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) to personally oversee security arrangements, while additional personnel will be deployed to ensure smooth traffic flow on highways and at recreational and public spots during the festive period
